You're right, except that he wasn't kicked out, he was just made so miserable that he left. He almost moved to Israel in 1977, but the men in the Lakewood Yeshiva sent a petition to Rav Shach, who convinved him to stay. You just made me aware that I owe Rav Shach a personal Hakarat Hatov...I did arrive to Lakewood unti 1981. Just imagine what I would have missed, and my son, too, now in Israel.
