Shabbat and hospital

Question

Here in FL, we have made arrangements with many doctors that Shomer Shabbat women who arrive in the hospital on Shabbat will not be discharged over Shabbat. All we needed to do was ask! The ob/gyns LOVE our business, we are usually good for putting a child or two through college due to our propensity for larger families and they will bend over backwards to court us. Many doctors, in my experience will be willing to order "rest" or "observation" for a Shomer Shabbat client if discharge is to be on Shabbat if only asked. Many hospitals do have Bikur Holim arrangements for family members who arrive with a loved one on Shabbat and then are stuck.This may be in a private home that regularly gives hospitality, an apt nearby rented by Bikur Holim just for that purpose or a special lounge which has separate sleeping facilities and serves hot kosher food on Shabbat. We know of people who were given the residents lounge for Shabbat simply for the asking and who then ended up inviting all of the Jewish residents for Shabbat lunch!! My own experiences have been with Satmar Bikur Holim in NY, and with Roffe in Boston. In Florida, the nearest shul to the hospital generally has arrangements for patients families to stay comfortably within a short walk. Perhaps there is a synagogue, Chabad House or Aish HaTorah near the hospital you might need to be at over Shabbat. There may just be a family who would be very grateful for the priviledge of doing the mitzvah of Hachnasset Orchim and Bikur Holim near there as well. I know a very special woman who bought a house right next to a hospital just so that she could provide lodging for families of patients!! She has been blessed to see her grandchildren's children!! (and a million dollar offer when the hospital wanted to expand!!)
