Shabbos candles
Question
Shabbos Candles
Answer
Answered by Chaim Yisrael AbadiThere is nothing to do now. For the future, she should always make sure to light at candle lighting time (18 minutes before Shkiya), unless you come home before that. Then she can light before Kiddush. She is not required to be mekabel Shabbos (light candles) when you go to Shul for the early Shabbos Minyan. CYA We learned (actually during the premarital talk from the Rabbi) that it is the HUSBAND'S responsiblity to make certain that his wife kindles the Shabbat lights at the correct time. This is because women are very likely to do just what Mark's wife did, which is to care for the children, get ready the food or clean up without looking at the clock. Since women are generally exempt from time bound mitzvot, (ie praying at specific times, etc) a woman's life is often not dictated by the clock as much as a man's life is. Anyway,we learned that the husband should make sure that his wife kindles the Shabbat lights and then go to the synagogue. Does this change with "early Shabbos"? If the husband is in "night" and the wife is still in "day", does this mean the children are in the Twilight Zone?? Is it easier to observe the Jewish religion if we just do things the way our parents did and not try to second guess God and make day into night or sell our businesses to Goyim for Shabbat so that they can be operate as usual on Shabbat, or any of the other new and "improved" things that so many "Rabbis" are coming up with that seem to make our observance more difficult instead of the "easier" that is being promised to us??
