sushi
Question
HI RABBI, I WAS WONDERING WHAT I CAN EAT WHEN IT COMES TO SUSHI AT A SUSHI BAR WITH SHELLFISH. CAN I ORDER RAW TUNA ON RICE? I KNOW THE SPICY SAUCE HAS A MIX OF FISH ROE, HOWEVER, PLAIN RAW TUNA OR RAW TUNA ON RICE, KOSHER? PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THE FISH IS CUT WITH THE SAME KNIFE AND THE RICE IS COOKED IN IT'S OWN STEAMER THANK YOU VERY MUCH, RJ
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiRaw tuna or other Kosher fish is fine, but they need to wash it and cut it with a clean knife on a clean surface or wax paper. Rice is Bishul Akum (cooked by a non-Jew) & no good. The Wasabi, and the seaweed is no problem. The soy sauce is OK, unless it's some unique kind, but regular soy sauce is fine. Have them make you a special roll with cucumber instead of rice, and avocado. I'm sure they can work you up a nice roll to accomodate your religion. AA
