Swallowing live fish

I wrote to you once about how i was at a party and a guy there was telling me about how he was at a party earlier in the week and some guys dared him (and bet him $10 for it) to drink the center peice - the goldfish in a cup of water - and how he so gladly gulped it down and turned to them and said 'wanna go double or nothing?' I am still wondering, was he permitted to 1)eat a goldfish 2)eat it alive 3)eat anything alive
