tefilin

Question

K'vod HaRav, I learned to pray in the Syrian community. I, therefore sit when I bless and wrap the tefelin shel yad. I am now praying @ a Shul that follows Morrocan minhagim. I was corrected by someone in the Kahal saying that I should stand whilst making the bracha, make the first wrap and THEN sit. Is this correct, or is it just their minhag? Can you give me a source to quote in support of the Syrian Minhag? Thank-you and Tizku l'misvot.
