Question

If it is after Shabbat and I get a call from a Jeiwsh friend in California (I can see on the caller ID who it is) and it is still Shabbat in California, can I pick up the phone?

Yes. And talk to that "friend," and explain to him/her about Shabbat. The phone isn't much of an issue to bother him/her with. Work on the cooking, driving, and so on. AA
