Utensils

Question

We all use different silverware for meat and dairy. Is this a custom or a law recorded in the Shulhan Arukh? (I understand that a custom has the authority of law)

It's a custom to maintain two sets of utensils. Once that is done, if you run out of dairy spoons, you can grab one from the meat drawer..... Or if you're out on the road and the owner of the hotel, Mr. Patel, doesn't keep dairy/meat laws, then you can use any spoon. You're still a big Tzaddik, because at home, under normal circumstances, you keep two sets of dishes & utensils. Is that clear enough?! AA
