Utensils
Question
Is there any halakhic reason why people won't eat kosher food with utensils at a restaurant. They say that the utensils are treif? All kosher caterers bring their own silver and plates. Is this only a chumra?
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiYou can use clean utensils in a non-Jewish establishment, or if you don't know if the owner is Jewish or not. Often the caterer who is Jewish brings his own utensils which is not properly Toveled (dipped in a Mikveh). Then you can't use his utensils. People are just confused. You know the expression, "don't follow me, I'm lost." Just follow the rules and don't look at what people do. AA
