Why Kosher?

I am a 16 year old girl living in the south of england. I have strong Jewish roots within my family and would like to know more about my family history.I was wondering if anyone could help me establish why it is so importnat for Orthodox Jews to observe kashrut. thanks very much

Judaism is a religion that its beliefs are based on a Torah given by God, which is the rules that we humans must follow. Just like when you buy a microwave oven it comes with an instruction manual. This comes with a set of rules describing what can and what cannot be eaten. That is what Kashrut or Kosher refers to. AA
