wigs / hats

Question

I'm told that many women who wear hats, also wear a wig underneath, so that even the hair that shows beneath the hat isnt real. As soon as they get married, they run out to the wig store to find something that matches their real hair as closely as possible. Doesn't this seem to contradict the entire point? As I understant it, the idea behind all of this is modesty. How is that at all accomplished when a large majority of the people wont even know that its not the real hair. To me, it would seem more logical for the woman to wear a bright green wig, something that sends out the message "I am saving my real hair for my husband." Instead we find them buying wigs that are as presentable as possible, so real looking that we sometimes cant tell whats real and not real. And on top of it, as a result of constantly wearing it, the real hair beneath it becomes unkempt and the only one who doesn't get the "presentable wig" is her husband. Am I missing something?
