yeast

Question

HI! Happy Pesach. Can you please explain to me how YEAST can be kosher for passover. My mom uses Red Star yeast to bake challah thru the year, how is it ok for passover? Wouldnt it by definition cause the grain to rise....causing chametz? Does not actually using flour, but using matza flour make a difference? Thanks David

Yeast that is not made from flour and water is Kosher for Passover. It is the Challah that you cannot eat. "Wouldnt it by definition cause the grain to rise....causing chametz?" Where did you get this one from?! Is it to include anything that can cause grain to rise?! AA
