Big Business Kashruth Organizations

Question

The other day I had an interesting exchange with the head of a major Kashrut organization during which I challenged him to explain the need for "supervision" when there is a principle of "lo machzakinan issur" and any issues would be taken care of by bittul. He told me that it is not his job to give halachic rulings for Klal Yisrael, just to make sure there is a system in place to prevent non-kosher food from getting into kosher food. So, basically, he doesn't care about HALACHA. His interest is in enforcing a man-made version of the rules according to a man-made "standard". If he doesn't use halacha as his guide in making decisions, how does he know an automobile doesn't need a hechsher? How about a vacuum? A weed-wacker? There might be non-kosher in them! Just a thought.
