challah

Question

Hi, love this site thanks for your time. Question, recently I have been told that Sephardics hold that the Challah you buy are made with Egg and cannot fullfill your hamotzi on shabbat, is this true? My fatherinlaw uses Pita Bread and insists you must eat a whole piece to make Birkat Hamazon I would think Pita is poor mans bread , why would you use it on Shabbat Last question, if you are using a large Chally do you need to have 2 pieces on the table for Hamotsi, Isn't the challah two pieces of bread wrapped in knots and therefore you are already covered. thanks

1) No. Not true. 2) No. You make Birkat Hamazon when you eat equal to half of a medium sized egg (much less than a Pita). 3) Pick the best bread for Shabbat. I like pita, it's the best bread for Techina. It's a mood thing. 4) Only the kind that they call "pull away" or something like that, where you can just separate them by giving a little tug. Pre-sliced Challah or bread, however, is considered Lechem Mishnah (2 breads). AA
