I recently read about how 2/3 of Charedi men in Israel don't work and that Rabbi Elyashiv and others are refusing to allow the students to receive even basic secular educations which means that even if they want to work, they have no skills or even ability to develop a skill. Doesn't the Talmud say tha a father has to teach a son how to make a living? WHat are the rabbis so afraid of? Is the Torrah they have been teaching so flimsy that if the students receive a little secular education they will immediately become non-religious? This sure hasn't happened in the U.S. where every Charedi has a full curriculum? Why are the rabbis in Israel so backwards?

Answered by Aaron AbadiForget the secular education. Let them give them a proper Jewish religious education. Add to that mathematics, economics, English, computers, and internet. Then create seperate Hesder type army programs, where the different type groups can each have their own sheltered environment. Keep these guys far from the front lines. Have them pack boxes of stuff, or local city patrols. Then put them into the real world, to work and feed their families, as required by Jewish Law. We should certainly isolate a few special students that we realize have serious potential in one day becoming a Rabbi & a leader, and support them. AA
