Cream Cheese
Question
Sorry to be back on this subject again. I was looking to see if there was anything new on Cream Cheese and came across an e-mail to you on April 10th asking about a Philly Cream Cheese run for passover with a masgiach T'midi. Your answer was we don't approve Philly cream cheese. Wouldn't a masgiach T'midi solve your problem. We have been over the Aruch Hashulchan Yoreh Deah # 115 Seif #13 - 19 many times in the last 3 months. We have not been able to find the loophole we need to eat OU cream cheeses, under the assumption that they do not fully watch the Cheesing process. We were sure that if they had a Mashgiach T'midi it would solve all the problems because the ingrediants themselves are fine. Are we missing something? We thought we were ready to take this up with OU but when I saw this answer I wonder if I fully understand the problem you see with Cream Cheese. I really miss eating Cheese Cake and JJ's Cream Cheese just doesn't do it for me. I NEED TO EITHER FIND A LOOPHOLE OR GET ou TO CHANGE THE WAY THEY CHECK CHEESES. HELP! Joey
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiIf an observant Jew watched the putting of the Maamid into the cheese, we are OK. The Hashgachot don't believe this is needed. If you know a time or company that does it, it is OK. Do they really have a Mashgiach Tmidi? He stays on over Shabbat? I doubt it. If they don't believe in it, why would they do it? Call the company direct and tell them that the way it's being done is not proper according to Jewish Law. Maybe they'll require better standards of their Mashgichim. AA
