Elevators and Shabbat

Question

What is the basic story with living in a building on a high floor? Can you ask a Non-Jew to press buttons for you? If you live on a high floor are you permitted to press buttons yourself? Can you wait at the elevator and just get off at whatever floor is pressed? thanks.
