Italian Wedding
Question
Dear Rabbi Abadi, I will be attending the wedding of my boss' daughter very soon and have a dilemma which I hope you can solve for me. I was advised by a co-worker that I, along with other wedding party officials, will be expected to "kiss the bride" (and her mother) at the conclusion of the ceremony. The bride's father (my boss) is a typical Italian boss and will not take kindly if I refuse his offering or if he detects some kind of flimsy excuse. May I kiss the bride and get it over with quickly to preserve my job and stature with my boss? Please advise. David
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiYaharog Ve'Al Yaavor! Take your boss to the side before the wedding and explain this strange Jewish custom to him in advance, so as not to insult him. There is hardly a person in today's day and age that would not respect your religion. AA
