Onions

Question

Can you explain what the story is with onions. I know that they are regarded as a sharp food which brings out the non-kosher taste in the knife used to cut it. So how come we are able to eat onions in a salad bar at a non-kosher place? Why aren't we concerned that the onion was cut with a knife that also cut hot non-kosher food and now the taste is being transferred to the onion? Thanks.

Safek-Sefeka plus Who said it was used for hot meat? Who said it was Ben Yomo? (Some hold it's OK) Some say onion is not considered Davar Charif. ...and in any case, they would normally use different knives for the salad in order to avoid getting meat flavor in the salad. AA
