playing on shabbos

Question

I saw someone ask about playing ball on shabbos. There is Yushalme in taanis p25: that says kador [ball] playing on shabbos that . brought on perranios to klal yisrael. good shabbos

I saw that also. Most (I say most because I didn't learn them all) of the Poskim who said assur to play ball on Shabbos (in those days) didn't give the Yerushalmi as the reason. I always wondered why. But, the Halacha remains that it is Muttar. Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, Siman 308 #45. Look over the sugya, let me know what you think. Maybe, your concern is, a person who is on a higher level, should be learning instead of playing ball. CYA
