Questioning
Question
Dear Rabbi, I am sorry if I am prolonging this discussion unduly. I just want to make clear to you that I do not question your father's halakhic knowledge at all, nor do I think for a moment that I have the right or the qualification to disagree with or challenge him. I think that communication by e-mail can be deceptive at times because 'tone of voice' is absent. If you were to hear me ask my questions over the phone or in person, I assure you that they would not come across as 'arrogant'. I am sincerely sorry if I seemed to disrespect you or your father. It was unintentional and not indicative of my personality or views. I have always been unclear about the role that minhag plays in the decision of halacha. It is a subject I have tried to understand for years and I have been consistently unable to grasp. I just thought that a better understanding of your father's reasoning for his pesak would help me clarify this issue. You misunderstood an honest query for a challenge. I apologize.
