Question
rabbi i came accross an interesting case in the gemara today, and since you are going through the topic of science and torah, i thought i would ask you. the gemara says that if you cant sleep, i beleive the gemara perscribes the placing of the eggg of a grasshopper in your left ear. if you say all things are correct, when one has trouble sleeping, do they get a persciption for a seditive, or try the grasshopper thing
Answer
Answered by Aaron AbadiI'm sure it doesn't use the word "grasshopper." It says a hebrew or Aramaic word that someone decided is a grasshopper. If you find the correct insect or whatever it is, and you follow the recipe, it might work. It also might not. The Teva (nature) changes and even in those days the remedies often worked on one person and not on another. That is very clear in the Gemara. AA
