shemini atzeret

Question

Hi Rabbi, 1. Why are we required to eat in the succah on Shemini Atzeret? 2. Is the required in Eretz Yisrael also? 3. Why dont we uses Arba Minim on Shemini Atzeret? Thanks, jomiz

1) for the same reason that we have 2 days Yom Tov. It may not be the 8th day, but rather still the 7th. 2) Not an Israeli 3) It would contradict stating it is Shmini Azeret. The reason why sitting in the Sukkah does not contradict is since you would eat outdoors at times and it does not show that you are eating there specifically because of the Holiday. If it is not comfortable, or for sleeping it would be a contradiction. AA
