I had heard that ashkenazim arenn't allowed to eat swordfish but sephardim are. what is the din?

Answered by Rabbi AbadiI never saw a swordfish, but the rule is simple. FINS & SCALES. Does it have it? Perhaps the confusion lies in the fact that swordfish have growths resembling scales as juveniles, which they lose as adults. However, these scales are attached in such a manner that they are not easily removed without destroying the underlying skin. These "scales," from what I understand, are affixed to the skin and not separated from it at all. Adult swordfish (and those sold in markets) lack scales. Therefore, swordfish would not be considered kosher.
