Tuna

Question

In Rabbi Bleich's book, Contemporary Halakhic Problems vol. 2 he discusses tuna and quotes from the Iggerot Moshe that you need a hekhsher. He also quotes R. Henkin saying similarly. On the other hand, he quotes R. Breisch who says you don't. It is also said on good authority that R. Aharon Kotler held that canned tuna is fine without a hekhsher. Obviously your understanding of the halakhah differs from that of Iggerot Moshe, but I just thought it was a bit flippant to knock this position. R. Feinstein, as far as I know, wasn't concerned about catching dolphins, only with the amount of trust we place in the people packaging the fish.

If that is true, Rabbi Feinstein could have easily been misled by the huge kashrut industry and their spokespeople. Anyone who knows, can tell you a few stories of this type situation. Let's not get too naive. Aaron Abadi
